| Limited tours of corrections facility available
Groups are invited to see the inside of the new corrections facility during guided tours, offered on a limited basis throughout the year. Due to staffing and security requirements, tours will take place just twice a week. Generally, tours will be conducted from 9 to 11 a.m. or 1 to 2:30 p.m. Special arrangements for evening tours may be requested, but the sheriff's department may not be able to accomodate all groups because of the limitations in place. Adult groups must have between 20 and 40 people. Students in Grades 7 to 12 will be accepted for school tours. For information on scheduling a tour, please email department spokesman Trevor Wendzonka or call (574) 535-6504. The facility is ADA compliant, and visitors with wheelchairs or personal motorized devices will be able to access all areas on the tour. Cameras and other equipment with imaging capabilities will not be allowed for use on the tours. Visitors to the facility may see the public reception area, visitation, the courtroom, the kitchen, and inmate housing areas. While the sheriff's department will make its best effort to accomodate every group, not all areas inside the building may be available for each tour. In the summer of 2007, prior to the inmates being moved from the old jail in downtown Goshen, more than 2,000 residents walked through the new building.
