We're moving. Here's what you need to know.
Updated: Monday, Jan. 11, 2010

Law enforcement and administration of the Elkhart County Sheriff's Department will be moving to the new criminal justice complex on the northeast corner of C.R. 26 and C.R. 7. The move is expected to occur sometime this winter. Some of the FAQs:

Q. How will I contact the sheriff's department?
A. Beginning Dec. 1, we are asking for all mail to be sent to our new address: 26861 C.R. 26, Elkhart, IN 46517. This will assist our mailroom during transition. Our new phone numbers will be announced at a later date.

Q. Where can I get crash reports, criminal histories or handgun permits?
A. Records will continue to operate at the downtown Goshen office, 111 N. Third St., until the new building opens. More information will be released in the coming weeks about the move.

Q. Where will sheriff's sales be conducted?
A. On Jan. 27, 2010, the sales of foreclosed properties will be conducted in the training room of the corrections facility at 26861 C.R. 26. Parking is available at the rear of the building, close to the training room entrance. Updated forms and sale listings are available by clicking here. Beginning in February, it is expected the sales will take place in the law enforcement building at the front of the C.R. 26 complex.

Q. Where will the sheriff's merit board meet?
A. While the five-member board handling personnel and pension matters traditionally has met in downtown Goshen, the meetings will be moved to the law enforcement center on C.R. 26 once the building is completed. Regular meetings on the second Monday of each month are open to the public.

More information will be posted on this page as the department continues to prepare for the move.
